Pages for all Ages, a locally owned bookstore in Savoy (Illinois), went out of business this week, according to the News-Gazette.
I’ve seen a lot of arguments back and forth about whether people should be make an effort to be extra thrifty, or whether this is too harmful for small businesses. The answer to both these questions is probably “yes”. I hope that once people feel more comfortable spending money, other people will still be willing to take the risk of running small businesses.
Until then, let’s hope that people are still willing to support libraries, from which they can get way more stuff for free than those same amount of taxes/tuition dollars would buy on their own.
